Florence Isackson, age 98, of Huron, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2020, at Avantara – Huron.

Her life will be celebrated with a family service.

Florence Williams was born December 27, 1921, to Walter and Helen (Jeffery) Williams at Monowi, Nebraska. Florence grew up near the Badlands in South Dakota during the Depression era where her father tried to farm the arid and stubborn land with minimal success. Florence being the second oldest of eight children, often helped in caring for her five younger brothers. Florence was a precocious child who loved school and was not afraid to speak her mind. She came from a musically gifted family and greatly enjoyed listening to music and playing the piano by ear.

Florence graduated from Philip High School at Philip, South Dakota, and continued her education at Northern Normal for two years where she received her teaching certificate. It was standard for teachers to attend one year of college to teach in rural schools, but Florence chose to attend Northern Normal for two years so she could gain skills necessary to teach in city schools. After graduating from Northern Normal, Florence accepted a teaching position in Webster, South Dakota, as a 4th grade teacher. It was in Webster where she met Charles Isackson, a decorated World War II veteran.

On September 3, 1946, Florence and Charles were married at Rapid City, South Dakota.  They lived at Webster, where they had their first son, Charles, Jr. They then moved to Fargo, North Dakota, where they had their daughter, Helen; before moving to Huron in 1955, where they had their two youngest sons, David and Douglas. Florence was a homemaker while raising her children, but went back to work for the Huron School District to help support her children while they attended college.

Florence actively supported the arts, she enjoyed gardening, and spending time in the Black Hills, where she and her husband spent their summer months. Florence was an active member of the American Lutheran Church.  She was a member of many church circles and taught Sunday school for many years.  Florence's life was dedicated to taking care of her family and her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Charles Jr., and David; four brothers, Ray, Irvin, William, and Larry Williams; and two sisters, Irene Henrichsen and Irma Knight.

Grateful for having shared in her life are one daughter, Helen (Jeff) Trandall of Huron; one son, Doug Isackson of Huron; two daughters-in-law, Pam Isackson and Geri Isackson; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Duane Williams of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
