Later in 1978, Florence and Dennis moved to Wolsey, South Dakota. Florence worked at American State Bank at Wolsey, and then Bales Continental and Raven's Industries at Huron. Florence was the traditional wife and mother as well as a strong, determined, independent, and knowledge seeking woman. Florence drew some of her home's blue prints and worked on the construction crew challenging gender norms before her time.

As a parent to her daughters, she always carried a united front with her husband when it came to rules of their home. Florence enjoyed listening to classic country music and liked to go dancing with Dennis.

She was a wonderful cook and baker and enjoyed sharing her talents with her family and friends and teaching her daughter, Dennise, to cook and bake.  She also enjoyed gardening, reading, sewing and woodworking.

She had a servant's heart and was a charter member of Hope Lutheran Church, she served as President of the Christian Womens Club and hosted Bible studies at her home. She also enjoyed giving up her time, talents and treasurers to her favorite charities. Florence was a life-time member of the Hershman-Gordon American Legion Auxiliary.

Florence enjoyed getting together with friends over a cup of coffee. She was also known for gathering around a table for a good game of whist, black jack, cribbage, rummy, pinnacle or scrabble.
