Florence Hesse, age 89, of Huron and formerly of Sioux Falls, passed away Friday, October 11, 2019, at the Avantara (formerly SunQuest Healthcare Center) in Huron. Her memorial service was held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, October 16th at the Kuhler Funeral Home.

Florence Hesse was born on September 28, 1930, in Mitchell, South Dakota, to Solomon and Gladys (Church) Wood. She graduated from Mitchell High School.

On April 10, 1951, she married Virgil Hesse and they moved to Huron shortly thereafter. They raised their family in Huron until they moved to Sioux Falls in 1976. In 2016, Florence returned to Huron.

Florence enjoyed her large collection of dolls, hand carved wooden spoons, teapots and cups and spending time in her flower garden.

She and Virgil enjoyed family vacations at a lake in Minnesota, camping trips. Florence also enjoyed her time with Virgil on their motorcycle trips in the United States and Canada. Her dogs were very special to her. Above all Florence loved her children and grandchildren.

Her faith was very important to her and she accepted Christ as her Savior.

Florence and Virgil had five children, nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her four children, Dick Hesse of Lake Hendricks, South Dakota, Bev (Steve) Tschetter of Huron, Bob (Jeany) Hesse of Volga and Dave (Brenda) Hesse of Sioux Falls; two sisters, Carol Ann Wood and Dot Styles, both of Mitchell; a brother, Herb Wood of Nebraska.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil on August 24, 2010; their daughter, Lee Anna Hesse, one great-granddaughter, Kelsey Tschetter, a daughter-in-law, Deb Hesse; four sisters; and one brother.
