Evelyn Lucille Halse was born August 23, 1920, at Florence, South Dakota to George and Caroline Kahnke. She grew up near Florence and graduated from Florence High School in 1939.
On November 14, 1943, Evelyn married Glenn Halse at Florence, South Dakota. They were married for 60 years, until Glenn's death in 2003. They lived in Watertown and moved to Huron in 1953 when Glenn purchased the tire business, Glenn's OK Tire. Evelyn was a homemaker and created a loving home to raise four children while supporting Glenn in the business. She was an accomplished seamstress, "chief cook and bottle washer" and "butcher, baker and candlestick maker". We have special fond memories of her entertaining spontaneous rhymes and jingles and enjoyed her homemade bread, chocolate cake, sugar cookies and caramels.
Evelyn was a member of the American Lutheran Church and the ALC Circle, Home Extension, Fair City Squares, Fun Steppers, General Aid, and Ceramic Club.
