Eugene "Gene" Allen Wipf was born on June 18, 1943, in Huron, South Dakota, and died on April 29, 2022, at the age of 78 in Huron, South Dakota.
Gene graduated from Huron High School and spent a year at the College of Commerce. He then started a trucking job with Park Grant. That's when he met Judy (Oswald) at a school carnival cake walk. They got married on June 26, 1970, and adopted two children, Ginger and Travis. Gene worked for Park Grant/Nash Finch until the mid-80's when they shut down the Huron location. After that he was a cook at the Hangar and the Barn for some years before he and Judy moved to Spencer, Iowa, in 1999. There he started his 20 year-long-career at Wal-Mart. They moved back to Huron in 2006 and Gene continued his work at Wal-Mart. He officially retired on the day of his 20th work anniversary – July 20, 2019.
Gene was the kindest man; he loved all people. He was first and foremost a family man. Spending time with family and loved ones was his favorite pastime. Gene found any and every reason to laugh and enjoy life. He also enjoyed bowling league, fishing, watching and attending Minnesota Twins baseball games, cooking for his family, watching NASCAR races with son, Travis, watching Western movies with son-in-law, Brandon, and traveling which included trips to Branson, Missouri. He had a deep appreciation for God's majestic creatures; especially eagles, horses, and dolphins.
Gene is survived by his wife Judy (Oswald); his daughter, Ginger (Brandon) Tucker; his son, Travis (Heather Jungemann) Wipf; his sister, Diane (Clinton) Wipf; his brothers, Melroy (Marsha) Wipf and LaVerne (Vivian) Wipf; along with nieces and nephews, Tracey, Tami, Troy, Tyler, Michelle, Sherry, Michelle and Steven and their families including lots of great-nieces and great-nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe Alvin and Hilda Wipf; and a niece, Julie Diane Wipf.
