Eugene McMillan, age 94, of Huron, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.

His private funeral service was live-streamed at 1:00 PM, Saturday, February 20th, from the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church . Burial will be in Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, with military honors by the Huron Veterans Council.

Visitation will be from 2:00 to 6:00 PM, Friday, February 19th at Kuhler Funeral Home, with family representative from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Friday afternoon.

Eugene Edward McMillan was born May 24, 1926, to Otto and Christina McMillan near Carpenter, South Dakota.  He attended schools in the Carpenter area.  He married Lois Muncy on May 20, 1950.  They resided in the Carpenter area until 1963 when they moved to Huron.

Until his death, Gene resided with Lois in the home they built in 1964 where they raised four children, Randy, Lorna, Gerry, and Kerry.

He and Lois have been members of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church since 1965.

Gene started working as a machinist and welder at Hurd Alignment in 1965 and continued there until his retirement.  During those years at Hurd's he trained many young men in the trade, including all three of his sons.

He served in the Army from 1944 to 1946.  He has been a member of the American Legion and VFW since being discharged from the Army.  After retirement he was very active with the Veterans Council, especially as part of the honor guard at funerals.  He was recognized in 2020 as a 75-year member of the Huron American Legion Post #7.

In retirement Gene collected antique wrenches and restored antique tractors, and was a participant at many Antique Power Shows on Father's Day weekends at the fairgrounds and at the SD State Fair antique power demonstrations during the fair each year.  He led many parades in his restored 1952 Farmall Cub tractor pulling the Veterans Council color guard trailer.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Florence Batien, Ruby Johannsen and Vivian Dosch; and brothers, Charles (Bud) McMillan, Irwin McMillan and Lyle McMillan.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years; and his children, Randy (Laurie) McMillan of Iroquois, Lorna McMillan of Huron, Gerry (Debby) McMillan of Howard Lake, MN, and Kerry (Deb) McMillan of Victoria, MN; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandson; brother, Keith (Shirley) McMillan of Huron; sister-in-law, Genevieve McMillan of Huron; as well as many nieces and nephews.
