Esther Tschetter, age 94, of Huron, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Avantara-Huron.
Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, August 19, at the Kuhler Funeral Home, with burial to follow in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Her service will be livestreamed.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Sunday, August 18, at the Kuhler Funeral Home, with family present from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Esther Lillian Gross was born April 20, 1930, to Rhinehart and Rebecca (Walter) Gross at Hitchcock, South Dakota. She attended school in the Hitchcock area and helped her father on the family farm.
Esther accepted Christ as her Savior as a young lady and was baptized in July of 1943.
Esther married Jonas J. Tschetter on December 7, 1947, in Huron, South Dakota. They farmed in Beadle County until the end of 1966, when they moved to Huron.
She worked at Raven Industries, Tschetter Hohm Clinic, and the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home until her retirement in 1995.
Esther and Jonas took many bus trips and several trips to Arizona and Florida. She was a member of Mt. Olivet Church and the Ladies Missionary Society. She loved to cook, bake, do embroidery, latch hook, puzzles, and shop. She proudly made afghans for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her greatest joy was time with her family and cooking up a storm at the holidays.
Esther is survived by her three sons, Reg of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Doug of Huron, South Dakota and Kelvin (Connie) of Morris, Minnesota; her four grandchildren, Darcie (David) VanEde, Nicole (Austin) Schmidgall, Suzanne (Seth) Bauder and Tommy (Amy) Nickel; one granddaughter-in-law, Michelle (Dave) Peck; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Vi Tschetter and Lila Hofer; and one brother-in-law, Willard Wipf.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jonas; one grandson, Dustin Tschetter; two sisters, Elma (Clarence) Bush and Rose (Clarence) Wipf, an infant brother; three brothers-in-law, Leonard Hofer, Cliff Tschetter and Eldon Schmeichel; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Art and Susanne Tschetter, Peter and Beulah Tschetter and Phyllis Wipf; two nieces, Pat Mendel and her four children and Arla Kleinsasser; two nephews, Dennis Wipf and Monte Tschetter; and an infant great-grandson.
