Ervin L. Cleveland, age 83, of Huron, died Thursday, April 27, 2017, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. His funeral service was at 2:00 PM, Monday, May 1st, at the Riverview United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with military honors by the Huron Veterans Council.
Ervin Cleveland was born to Hazel & Floyd Cleveland on November 26, 1933 in Sisseton, South Dakota. In the early years, Ervin helped his parents out on the farm and worked at Armour's in Huron, South Dakota, during the winters.
Ervin married Maren Olsen on May 31, 1956. Shortly after getting married, he was drafted and served two years in the Army. Most of his military time was spent overseas in Germany. After finishing his tour in the Army, Ervin and Maren moved to Huron. He returned to work at Armours. Shortly after moving back, they found a small acreage two miles west of Cavour, where they settled and started a farm. Ervin spent twenty-one years working many hours at Armour's during the day and then came home to work on his true passion of farming.
Farming was Ervin's life; he did this for fifty years. He also enjoyed fishing, playing cards, camping, and being with family. Ervin and Maren spent twelve winters in Arizona. In 2010, Ervin and Maren moved off the farm to Huron where they continued to enjoy spending time with their grandkids and great grandkids.
He was a member of Riverview Methodist Church, belonged to the VFW, Good Sam's Camping Club.
Ervin is survived by his wife, Maren Cleveland of Huron; his children, DeAnna (David) Alcanter of Belle Fourche, Craig (Marie) Cleveland of Aberdeen and Donnie (Rita) Cleveland of Huron; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; five brothers, Roy (Arlene) Cleveland of Sisseton, Charles (Lorraine) Cleveland of Huron, Duane (Judy) Cleveland of Pierpont, Dale (Bonnie) Cleveland of Bothell, Washington, Calvin (Linda) Cleveland of Fall City, Washington; two sisters, Arlene (Sherman) Thovson and Gloria (David) Echols, both of Rapid City; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; his brother, Harlan Cleveland; his brother, James Cleveland who lost his life serving in Vietnam; and his sister in-law, Deloris Cleveland.
