Erin Marie Tofflemire was born November 11, 1977, in Mobridge, South Dakota, to Norman and Nancy (Sapa) Tofflemire. She passed away on November 27, 2016, after a valiant fight against cancer and treatment effects. Her attitude about her health circumstances was never one of self-pity, feeling fortunate to have met so many wonderful people along the journey.
She graduated from Huron High School in 1996. Following graduation, she fundraised tuition and signed on with Up with People, an international goodwill group. She performed with the group throughout the United States and Europe for a year. She briefly attended the University of Alaska in 1998 to study geography before being diagnosed with cancer. On February 14, 1999, she married Jay D. Foss at Storm Mountain Center in the Black Hills. The couple divorced in 2007.
Erin had a quirky sense of humor, wit, and a unique style. She was active in the theater department during her school years and as a volunteer after graduation. She was an excellent babysitter and role model for young people. While living in Rapid City, South Dakota, she was a docent at the Dahl Arts Center and a mentor with the Big Sister program. She also worked at Walmart for several years in Spearfish, Huron, and Rapid City.
