Obituary

Elvina P. Hofer, age 98, of Huron, passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.

A private family graveside service was held in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Samaritan's Purse.

Elvina Kleinsasser was born August, 17, 1923, to Paul and Suzanne (Waldner) Kleinsasser on the family farm, rural Broadland, South Dakota. Growing up, Elvina attended country schools and helped on the farm. As a teenager and upon her profession of faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior, Elvina was baptized at Hutterthal Mennonite Church (now Prairie Bible Church).  Elvina was a hardworking woman who loved gardening, planting flowers and spending time with family and friends.

On March 6, 1945, Elvina married the love of her life, Johnnie Hofer at the Hofer family farm. They had four sons, twin boys, Ronald and Donald (Donald died shortly after birth) Dennis and Reginald.

Elvina and Johnnie farmed 20 miles north of Huron from 1945 to 1962. In 1962, they moved to the farm where Johnnie grew up. Along with farming corn, oats and wheat, they also milked cows. Elvina and Johnnie milked cows for 40 years, from 1945 until 1985. Together they retired in 1987, and in 1989 and moved to their home on Lawnridge Avenue in Huron. They lived there until 2017, when they moved to assisted living.

Elvina and Johnnie were active members in their church activities at Prairie Bible Church near Carpenter, and at Mt. Olivet Church in Huron. Their faith in God has been a prominent part of their lives.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Johnnie Hofer; her parents; one son, Donald Hofer; one daughter-in-law, Diana Hofer; one grandson, Jay Ryan Hofer; one great-granddaughter, Alexis White; her siblings, Edwin (Ruby) Kleinsasser, Clarence (Hannah) Kleinsasser, Ted (Violet) Kleinsasser, Paul Kleinsasser and Ann (Richard) McCoy; and in-laws, Jacob (Rosie) Hofer, Eli (Ruth) Hofer, Martin (Veanna) Hofer, David (Gladys) Hofer, Richard Hofer, Sam (Ruth) Hofer and Mary (Jacob) Tschetter,
