Elmer Bartel, age 90, of Wolsey, passed away Thursday, May 27, 2021, at Avantara – Huron.
His memorial service was held at 2 :00 PM, Saturday, July 3rd at St. John's Lutheran Church, Wolsey. Burial was in the St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Wolsey.
Elmer L. Bartel was born October 12, 1930, to John and Anna (Kahre) Bartel, on a farm near Wolsey. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Wolsey High School in 1949.
On October 2, 1950, Elmer married Joy Minium at St. John's Lutheran Church. They would later add to their family six children, Sonia, Elliot, Clint, Celia, Neal and Danny. Elmer and Joy were married for 56 years.
Elmer was involved with farming his whole life. He also worked at Armour's for 23 years.
Elmer was a life-long member of St. John's Lutheran Church at Wolsey. Elmer and Joy were active members in the church and led their children in the life of faith.
On January 12, 2008, Elmer married Mary Alice Dormady Maas at St. John's Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joy, on July 13, 2006; one daughter, Sonia Dickerson, on March 12, 2005; one son, Elliot Bartel, on January 2, 2000; two sisters, Laura Mead and Elena Neeman; and four brothers, Alfred, Martin, John, Wilfrid Bartel; and step-daughter, Carrie (Peter) Peterson.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, Mary Alice; four children, Clint (Cheryl) Bartel of Huron, Celia (William) Newman of Indianapolis, IN, Neal (Linda) Bartel of Wessington Springs and Danny Bartel of Buckeye, Arizona; one son-in-law, John Dickerson of Indianapolis, IN; ten grandchildren, Bryce (Andrea) Dickerson, Kesia (Tom) Birdwell, Amber (Adam) Osiecki, Tabitha (Keith) Reuter, Jeffery Bartel, Rachel Bartel-Newman, Rhiannon Bartel-Newman, Nicole Bartel, Angela Bartel and Joshua (Natalie) Bartel; and nine great-grandchildren, Aubrey Hofmeister, Evan Hofmeister, Taryn Bartel, Kenzie Bartel, Emersyn Bartel, Kellan Dickerson, Ana Lisa Dickerson, Bryce Dickerson, Jr. and Theodore Elmer Osiecki.
