Ellen Storm, 76, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2024, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.

Her funeral service was held Friday, May 3, at 10:30 AM at the First Congregational Church in Huron, with burial in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Her service was live-streamed.

Her visitation was held from 1:00 to 6:30 PM Thursday, May 2, at the Kuhler Funeral Home, with her family present from 4:00 to 6:30 PM. A prayer service was held at 6:30 PM Thursday evening.

Ellen Fae Thompson was born August 22, 1947, to Emil and Shirley (Clites) Thompson in Huron, South Dakota. She spent the entirety of her childhood growing up there, and graduated from the Huron High School in 1965. She later met Warren Storm, and they were married on April 18, 1970. To this union, three children were born, Philip, Christopher and Angela.

Ellen was a staple in the local community, one who taught Sunday School, played in the church bell choir, was both a Boy and Girl Scout troop leader, as well as led a Washington D.C. trip for Odyssey of the Mind. She retired at the age of 67, and will be remembered for her twenty years at Lewis Drug, and her fifty proud years with the Huron School District.

When not serving the community, she was an amazing wife, mother, sister, friend, aunt and grandma. She enjoyed watching the grandkids in all their activities over the years, turning dental visits in Sioux Falls into impromptu salon appointments, celebrating the holidays by making far too much food, enjoying car shows with her husband, mastering her baking skills, and decorating cakes. Ellen was always supportive of new adventures, and held every accomplishment, no matter how small, as the most important one to date.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her parents-in-law, Walter and Marian Storm; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joyce and William "Bill" Watkins; one brother-in-law, Bill Gerstenecker; one niece, Kris Gerstenecker; and one great-nephew, Phelix Gerstenecker.

Ellen is survived by her husband, Warren Storm of Huron; her children, Philip (Rebekah) Storm of Huron, Christopher (Monica) Storm of Omaha, NE and Angela Storm of Sioux Falls; her grandchildren, Owen Kerkvliet, Griffin, Maggie, Sawyer, Andrew, Ben, Nicholas and Caroline Storm; her sister, Shirleen Gerstenecker of Mitchell; and her grandpups, Tucker, Karl and Alice.

Memories of Aunt Ellen will remain with her many nieces and nephew and their families.
