Elizabeth Ida Unruh was born to Harry and Iva Buller Unruh at Oakley, Kansas, on September 5, 1952. She peacefully slipped from this life on June 17, 2023, due to complications of a stroke. She spent most of her childhood in western and central Kansas.
Mom gave her heart to the Lord when she was 10 years old. She was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite by Minister Ervin Nightengale at Scott City, Kansas, on March 15, 1963. Her faith was precious to her and she remained faithful to her vows until death.
Mom married our Dad, Michael Unruh, on January 20, 1974. They shared the joys and sorrows of life for 48 years. An especially sorrowful time for them was losing a child at nine days old. Mom enjoyed raising us five children and did so with gentleness and a quiet disposition. Mom filled the role of a peacemaker when challenging situations would arise. When times were tough, she had innovative ways to make things work. Our Dad's passing left her very lonely but she bravely carried on with God's help.
Mom often saw the good in others and gave them the benefit of the doubt. She had a heart for the struggling ones and was always ready to give an encouragement to faithfulness. Her caring heart led to many friendships of all ages.
Mom had a talent for sewing and many girls benefited from the sewing classes she gave. She enjoyed setting puzzles and playing games. Her grandchildren had a special place in her heart and she took time for each one of them. She also had a special relationship with her nieces and nephews.
Remembering her with fond memories are her children, Tim (Starla) Unruh, Fort Sumner, New Mexico, Michalle (Arden) Unruh, Iroquois, South Dakota, Daniel (Rachelle) Unruh, Glenn, California, Mary (Kendall) Smith, Clarksdale, Mississippi and Grace (Tim) Koehn, Leland, Mississippi; seven grandchildren, Daniel, Marco, Alivia, J'Den, Braden, Lauren and Jaxtyn; one brother, Weldo (Gladys) Unruh, Scott City, Kansas; two sisters, Lillian (Steve) Schultz and Irene (Michael) Smith, all of Clarksdale, Mississippi.
Preceding her in death are her husband, Michael; an infant son, Jonathan; her parents; one brother; three sisters; and her parents-in-law.
