Obituary

Edna Gloria Baltzer (nee Hofer), formerly Stahl, age 94, of Huron, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on the Day of Resurrection, Sunday, March 27, 2016, at SunQuest HealthCare Center. Her funeral service was held at 11 AM, Saturday, April 2nd at the Living Hope Alliance Church in Huron, with burial at Ideal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Living Hope Alliance Great Commission Women's Group.
Edna Gloria, daughter of Michael "MJ" and Sahra (nee Miller) Hofer, was born July 25, 1921, at their prairie farm home in Delger Township, Wells County, near Chasley, North Dakota. Here on the North Dakota prairie she grew up with her three siblings, Emma June, Albert Isaak and Gilbert Michael. Her oldest brother, Peter Albert, died when he was just 16 days old in May of 1912.
Edna attended rural grade school, then graduated from Hurdsfield High School in Hurdsfield, North Dakota, in 1939. Two weeks before her graduation her father passed away. Shortly thereafter the family moved to Huron, where Edna attended business school.
On June 23, 1941, Edna married Jacob "Jake" E. Stahl. They raised their family, which consisted of six children, in Huron. Edna managed Sid's Snack Shop on Kansas Avenue for over 10 years. On September 28, 1966, she started work at Huron Regional Medical Center (formerly St. John's Hospital) in the nursery, retiring January 28, 1986, after 20 years of service.
Edna was a member of the Living Hope Alliance Church, formerly known as Huron Mission Church, for over 70 years. She was very much involved in her church, serving as Sunday School superintendent, teaching and mentoring youth, leading the annual children's Christmas programs, singing in the choir and serving as head of the Great Commission Women's Group for many years.
On August 26, 1989, she married Robert Baltzer. This marriage of 26 years provided much happiness for both Edna and Robert in the autumn years of their lives. They enjoyed traveling the United States and Canada in their motor home to visit relatives and friends, and visiting each other's children and their families. They were especially blessed to enjoy the wonder and beauty of God creation. Edna also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, memorizing Scripture, taking walks, and spending time with her grandchildren.
In December 2014, Edna Gloria entered SunQuest HealthCare Center in Huron, where she received excellent care and personal attention. We are grateful to all that assisted our mother during this time.
Our mother left us with an example of what faith, service and love should be. Those who remain to rejoice in her heavenly rewards are her husband, Robert; her daughters, Diana Stahl of Huron, South Dakota and Arlys (Stahl) Brezee of Rochester, Minnesota; her sons, Jack Stahl, and his wife, Kathy of York, South Carolina and Randy Stahl and his wife, Deborah of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; and daughter-in-law, Violet (Maurice) Stahl of Goodwin, South Dakota.
Grandchildren, Jeffrey Brezee and his wife, Teri, Jason Brezee, Elizabeth (Stahl) Aman and her husband, Stephen, David Stahl and his wife, Amanda, Stacy Stahl, Ricky Stahl and his wife, Tina, Penny (Stahl) Sacco and her husband, Cheech, and Debbie (Stahl) Elkins and her husband, Chris.
Great grandchildren, Hilary (Brezee) Gallaher and her husband, Tom, Holly and Josie Brezee, Franklin and Samuel Brezee, Thomas and Daniel Aman, Madelyn and Caitlin Stahl, Grayson and Ainsley Stahl, Abby Stahl, Jaden, Charlie and Isabella Sacco, Skye Brookshire and Cooper Elkins; sister-in-law, Maggie (Gilbert) Hofer; and many nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed step-children and step-grandchildren through her union with Robert. We look forward to seeing her again in heaven.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Jake who died October 1, 1976; infant daughter, Nancy Carol; one son, Maurice "Maury" Stahl, who died in 2003; one sister, Emma June (Hofer) Tschetter; three brothers, Peter Albert, Albert Isaak and Gilbert Michael Hofer, and a son-in-law, Howard "Hob" Brezee, who died in 2009.
