Obituary

Edmund LeRoux, age 91, of Huron, died Wednesday November 16, 2016, at the Doughtery House at Sioux Falls. His memorial service was held at 11:00 AM, Monday, November 21st at the First Presbyterian Church, Huron. Burial was in the Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis. Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church, Huron.
Edmund Frank LeRoux was born March 8, 1925, to Edmund and Hulda (Padelt) LeRoux at Muskegon Heights, Michigan. He graduated from Muskegon Heights High School in 1943. Ed then attended Central Michigan College, Lawrence College in Wisconsin and graduated from Michigan State University in 1948 with a bachelor of science in geology. He also served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946.
On July 23, 1949, he married Dolores Dean "Deannie" Stidham.
Ed was employed by the United States Geological Survey from 1949 to 1985 in California, Wisconsin, Washington D.C. and South Dakota. He authored ten scientific and technical papers on geology and hydrology.
Ed was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and served as an elder.He was also a member of the Huron Sertoma Club, American Legion, Huron Elks, and the City of Huron Water Board from 1986 to 1989.
His professional affiliations were Geologic Society of Washington D.C., South Dakota Academy of Science, American Geophysical Union, National Water Well Association, American Association for the Advancement of Science and was listed in American Men and Women of Science in 1976.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a special daughter, Carol LeRoux; and two sisters and their husbands, Geraldine and John Monehen and Esther and John Ferencsik.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Deannie of Huron; his children, Lawrence "Larry" LeRoux of Boulder, Montana, Christine "Chris" Jongeling of Blunt and Timothy "Tim" LeRoux of Everett, Washington; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
