Obituary

Edgar Rudy, age 89, of Huron, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2019, at the SunQuest Health Care Center. His Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:30 AM, Monday, July 1st, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. Military honors were conducted by the Huron Veterans Council. Burial was in the St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Cavour.

Edgar Allen Rudy was born July 1, 1929, to Edgar and Alice (Fuller) Rudy at Cavour, South Dakota. He attended country school at what was called the "Rudy School" and high school at Cavour, graduating in 1947. In 1948, Edgar joined the SD Army National Guard and was discharged in 1952, with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant.

He farmed with his father until 1955, when Edgar married Donna Vogt at St. Martin's Catholic Church at Huron. He worked for the Huron Police Department for 3 years. In 1958, he then joined the Huron Post Office as a mail carrier. Edgar enjoyed the time he spent walking his route and was a familiar face around town. After he retired in 1988, he was still recognized in the community as "there's my old mailman," and would enjoy a word or two, or three.

Edgar was a 50 year member of the American Legion and the National Association of Letter Carriers. He liked to build things and remodeled a house or two. He enjoyed old cars and restored several Model A's. He liked country music and built and played a couple of guitars. He always had something to work on.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mae, in infancy; and several cousins.

Edgar is survived by his wife, Donna of Huron; one brother, Jim and his wife, Marlene Rudy of Cavour; and many nieces and nephews.
