Obituary

Doyle D. Barton, age 96, of Huron, died Thursday, November 5, 2015, at Huron Regional Medical Center. Private burial was held at Riverside Cemetery with military honors by the Huron Veterans Council.
Doyle Dennis Barton was born October 28, 1919, to Arlis and Mae Barton at Sheffield, South Dakota. He lived his entire life in Beadle County except for his years in service.
He attended grade school at Valley I and Valley II rural schools. He graduated from Huron High School and also from the School of Agriculture in Brookings, South Dakota. Later, he attended the GI Farm School for two years.
Doyle entered the Army Air Force on March 1, 1942, and spent two years in Newfoundland. He was then transferred to the Infantry and later to the Quartermasters and spent the rest of his service time in Saipan and Tinian. He was honorably discharged on December 9, 1945. He was a member of the American Legion Post #7 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars #1776 of Huron.
On June 22, 1946, he married Jean Weable at the First United Methodist Church in Huron. They moved to a farm northeast of Huron and moved to Huron in 1957.
He was employed at Armour & Company for 27 years and was a member of the Amalgamated Meat Cutters Union #416. After he retired, he worked on the Keith Decker farm for several years. He drove shuttle bus at the South Dakota State Fair for a number of years.
Doyle served on the Valley II School Board and was Assistant 4-H leader of the "Beadle Bugs" and the "Green and White" clubs. He bowled many years on the Armour League. In later years he won many medals and ribbons in the Senior Games.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Jean of Huron; one son, Gary (Robin) Barton of Cheyenne, Wyoming; one daughter, Sheila Barton of Palm Desert, California; three grandsons, Jason (Candi) Briley of Huron, Clint Barton of Cheyenne, Wyoming and Barton (Jennifer) Roberts of Livermore, California; and three great-grandsons, Alexander Ferguson, William Briley and Asher Roberts.
