Douglas Horn, age 80, of Huron, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2026, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.

His funeral service was held at 11:00 AM, Friday, May 29 at the Kuhler Funeral Home, with burial in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. His service will be live-streamed.

Douglas Allen Horn, the son of Arthur Verlin and Dorothy Alice (Nesfield) Horn, was born on April 16, 1946, in Huron. Doug attended school and graduated from Wessington High School. Doug served in the U.S. Navy. He was honorably discharged in November of 1968.

After his service in the military, Doug took over the family farm near Bonilla, SD. Doug farmed for many years before moving to the Black Hills in 1986. He then operated his own insurance firm called the Marketing Insurance Service.

Doug married Mary Cobb in March of 1968, the couple made their home in Wessington, SD, and to this union were born three children: Emily, Deanna and Lisa.

Doug married Mary Bartell on December 31, 1999, in Wolsey. The couple lived in rural Wolsey, for a time before embarking on a 10-year adventure traveling in their motorhome through Texas, Arizona, Florida and the East Coast working for the National Park Service. In 2017, the couple moved to Huron.

Doug was a member of the VFW. He was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Huron. Doug had a great sense of humor and a very strong work ethic. He enjoyed his time on the farm immensely. He was very mechanically inclined and had a great attention to detail. Doug loved tinkering and building things in his shop. He was able to develop many different types of tools to make the farmwork go easier. Doug was very proud of his family. In fact, the most enjoyable times for Doug, were the times he spent with his family, taking his kids to the many local horse shows to watch them compete. Doug also loved his dogs: Smokey and Willard.

Grateful for having shared in Doug’s life are his three daughters, Emily (Alan) Isbell of Oregon, Ohio, Deanna (Gerald) Parker of Denmark, Maine and Lisa (Kari) Horn of White Bear Lake, Minnesota; his step-children, Bill (Lisa) Haigh of Lubbock, Texas, Lori (Dale) Heller of Huron, and Michele (special friend Michelle) Haigh of Sioux Falls; four grandchildren, Ashley, Joshua, Katherine and Scott; four step-grandchildren, Ashton, Tahni, Caitlin and MiKayla; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents; his second wife, Mary; one step-son, Tommy Haigh; and his brother, Rick Horn.
