Dorothy L. Ransom, age 88, of Huron, passed away Saturday March 12, 2022 at Avantara Healthcare-Huron.

At her request, there was a closed casket visitation from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 17, at the Kuhler Funeral Home, with her family present from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM.  This included a prayer service at 6:30 pm, on Thursday.  Dorothy's Prayer Service was live-streamed through our website. 

A private family graveside service was held at the Wessington Cemetery.

Dorothy Lorraine (Sharpe) Ransom was born August 27, 1933, at Huron to George and Leota (Willard) Sharpe.  Her parents divorced and she was raised by her mother Leota and Clyde Willard. She received her education at Wessington, Sand Creek Consolidated, Beadle County and Huron.

Dorothy married LaVerne Ransom on April 23, 1948, at Woonsocket. They lived on their farm in Sand Creek Township for 42 years. They moved to Huron in 2000, when LaVerne's health was failing from cancer.

Dorothy's love of God and her family were the joys of her life!

Dorothy was preceded in death by one grandson, Jamie Zepp; her parents; her husband, LaVerne; her two brothers, Keith and Clyde "Bear" Willard; and her one sister, Elva (Leland) Erdahl.

She is survived by her son, Dennis (Sandi) Ransom; her daughters, Jeanne (Steve) Carstens and Joni (Kevin) Hvam; her grandchildren, Rick (Michelle) Zepp, Brian (Maria) Ransom, Chad (Dawn) Hvam, Eric (Gina Lewin) Ransom and Kristen (Brandon) Schlepp; her great-grandchildren, Cody (Angie) Boetel, Hunter Zepp, Camden Hvam, Cayden Hvam, Gavin Ransom, Preston Ransom, Hadley Schlepp, Nolan Schlepp and Evan Schlepp; her great-great-grandchildren, Bentley, Lakon, Weston and Lorraine Boetel. Survivors also include her brother Norm (Sharry) Willard; her sister-in-law, Dorothy Willard; along with many nieces and nephews.
