Obituary

Dorothy Huss, age 80, of Huron, died Monday, February 16, 2015, at her home. Her funeral service was at 10 AM Saturday, February 21st, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Holland, officiating. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery.
Dorothy Jean Huss was born July 2, 1934, in Watertown, South Dakota, to L. James and M. Florence Plowman. She grew up in the Hitchcock area and later moved to Huron, where she graduated from Huron High School in 1952.
On May 15, 1955, she married James A. Huss in Huron. They made their home in Huron. He died in 1975.
Dorothy furthered her education after the loss of her husband and earned a Bachelor's degree from Huron College in 1982. She was employed as a librarian at Huron Public Library and also at Huron College.
Dorothy was a writer and enjoyed both literature and history. She wrote non-fiction, fiction and poetry. Dorothy was one of the co-authors of Huron Revisited, a non-fiction book about the history of the city of Huron. She had also won a number of literature awards at the South Dakota State Fair, including a Best of Show award.
Dorothy was a member of the First United Methodist Church and D.A.R. She loved animals, especially her dog, Fazee.
Those who are grateful to have shared in her life include her daughter, Kathy (Dennis) Duvall of Huron, and two grandchildren, Dana and Grant Duvall, both of Huron.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband James, and her son, James.
