Doris Endahl, age 93, of Rapid City and formerly of Huron, died Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at the Black Hills Golden Living Center at Rapid City. Her funeral service was held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, July 19th at the American Lutheran Church, Huron. Burial was in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the American Lutheran Church, ALC Christian Learning Center or Alzheimer's Research.
Doris Solberg was born April 28, 1923, to Julius and Lennie (Bridge) Solberg at Jerauld County, South Dakota. She grew up on the Solberg farm south of Lane. Doris attended a country school for eight years. She then attended and graduated from Lane High School in 1941. After graduation, Doris did secretarial work both in North Dakota and Wessington Springs, South Dakota.
On February 25, 1946, Doris married the love of her life, Alert "Al" Endahl at Hills, Minnesota. They established their home on the Solberg farm south of Lane, welcoming three children, Vernon, Barbara and Lyle. In 1952, Doris and Al moved their young family to Huron. Doris was a homemaker and was always there to welcome her children home when school was out for the day. After raising her children, she went to work at Raven Industries for several years.
Doris was a great cook and baker. She was especially known for her delicious homemade cinnamon and caramel rolls, homemade bread, dinner rolls, cookies and pies.
Doris was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was an active member of the American Lutheran Church of Huron for over 60 years.
Alert and Doris enjoyed socializing through traveling, dancing and camping. They joined the Belles and Beaus Square Dance Club, and were members of the South Dakota and National Square Dance Campers Association and the Good Sam Campers.
After the death of her husband, Al, on September 16, 2015, Doris moved to Rapid City to live with her daughter and son-in-law. Due to failing health, she entered Black Hills Golden Living Center in December 2015.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one brother and his wife, Marvin (Mary) Solberg; and two brothers-in-law, Gerald Endahl and John Forbes.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her three children, Vernon Endahl of Greeley, Colorado, Barbara (Vern) Mascher of Rapid City, and Lyle Endahl and his fiancé, Ava Katherine Johnson of Greeley, Colorado; three grandchildren, Eric Endahl and Austin Endahl, both of Greeley, Colorado, and Staci Mascher (Ryan) Kucker of Scottsdale, Arizona; three great-granddaughters, Mariska, Ainslie and Lucia Kucker; one sister, Lois Forbes of Wessington Springs; two sisters-in-law, Madalyn (Marvin) Pearson of Eden Prairie, Minnesota and Barbara Endahl of Paradise, California; thirteen nieces and nephews and their families; several cousins; and friend and neighbor, Peggy Merryfield.
