Donnie (only occasionally Don and never ever Donavan) Larson was born April 11, 1962 to Ken and Helen (Hintz) Larson. As the fifth of six children, his parents were pretty tired by the time he came along and it showed in all of those "up hills both ways in the freezing cold, so suck it up" stories he told. He would spend his entire life in the little town in South Da-freaking-Kota that he was born in because traveling was never his thing.
He met the love of his life, Lynn, in the Huron Club Scene (or otherwise known as dart league). Despite 4 years of dubious warning signs that she was in for another 23 years of Budweiser steins, ever increasing television sizes, and more Earnhardt cars than any grown person should have to deal with, Lynn and Donnie married on August 16, 1997.
He left the mortal coil (and his meat suit) on October 27, 2020, likely due to a desire to not see his beloved Dallas Cowboys blow yet another season. He leaves behind a very dysfunctional family that he was extremely proud of.
His vocabulary largely consisted of more curse words than most of us learn in a lifetime. He liked four letter words as much as he loved mowing his yard, blowing things up in the real world or virtual, or hunting down some poor unsuspecting animal with his son (much to his tree hugging daughter's dismay). These words of encouragement, sarcasm, and comfort gave us something we can pass down to our children. Most people knew exactly where they stood with him. It was very black and white. He liked you or he didn't and he didn't particularly care how you felt about it, either way. His family is still trying to figure out which camp we fell in (we know he loved us).
He was preceded in death by his parents (who we really hope put in a good word, because he'll need it).
He leaves behind his wife, Lynn; daughter, Alee; son, Alex; and son in law, Brian. He also leaves behind the five lights of his life, the cause of many back pains, giggles, and snuggles – his grandchildren: Daemon, Emily, Thorin, Hannah and Isaac.
There were also 5 siblings, their spouses and a legion of nieces and nephews.
A private family Celebration of Life was held Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at 2:00 PM, due to him being too ornery to have many friends anyway. Anyone else who wants to point, laugh or offer Donnie the finger one final time can view the Celebration on live-stream found at the Kuhler Funeral Home Facebook page.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Pheasants Forever or Beadle County Humane Society, 5063 Dakota Ave S, Huron, SD 57350 .
