Donna Rae was born on March 21, 1947, to Chris and Floriene (Hurd) Beck in Huron, South Dakota. She was the youngest of three girls. When she was in junior high, she moved with her family to Oregon and later to San Jose, California. Donna graduated from Blackford High School in 1965 before attending beauty school. She spent the majority of her life in California, before returning "home" to Huron in 2005, to be close to her sisters.
On September 2nd, 1966,she was united in marriage to Paul Freeman. Donna loved to tell the story of how they met; cruising down 1st street when their cars pulled up next to each other, Paul asked for her phone number. Donna and Paul had three children; Shone, Shelene "Shelly" and Shayne.
Donna was a hairdresser by trade and was always willing to do hair for her family and friends. She worked part time as a receptionist and as a shuttle driver. She always had a funny story to tell. Her hobbies included playing cards and games, going to rummage sales, online shopping (or shopping of any kind), and gardening. She loved animals, doing crafts, jigsaw puzzles, and spending time with family.
Donna had a bubbly personality, and she loved to laugh and have fun. Her smile and laughter always lit up the room, and could find humor in almost any situation. Lovingly known as "Donald Rae" and "Puff the Magic Dragger" by her family-she had a devilish, sarcastic wit and was able take a joke as well as she could dish it out! She was the life of the party at all family gatherings and events. One of the greatest joys of her life was being a grandma and a great grandma. Donna was kind-hearted, charismatic, humble, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. "You've come a long way baby!!"
She was preceded in death by her parents, Chris and Floriene; and her sisters, Jeanneice Iverson Kaylene Hammond.
Donna is survived by her husband, Paul; her sons, Shone (Josie) Freeman, and Shayne (Kirk) Freeman; her daughter Shelene (Kevin) McDonald; one brother-in-law, Darrell Iverson; her grandchildren, Haleigh, Heidi, Sydney, Sage, Hayden, Johan, Kaleb, Derek, Darren, Dustin (Shania), and Kandice; great-grandchildren, Loren, Irie, and Kora; her dog, Tippy; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
