IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donna
Bennett
June 28, 1947 – September 5, 2023
Donna Jean Bennett, age 76, of Huron, SD passed away rather suddenly on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at Huron Regional Medical Center.
Funeral service for Donna was held at 10:00 AM, Monday, September 11th at the Kuhler Funeral Home. Interment was in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Her service was live-streamed.
Donna was born June 28, 1947, to James (Jimmy) and Ruby (Hackworth) Fletcher in Oklahoma. During her childhood years her family moved to California briefly and ultimately ended up planting their roots in Missouri. Even though Donna lived in Huron for close to 60 years of her life, she always called Missouri home.
While in high school, Donna met a young army soldier stationed nearby at Fort Leonard Wood named David Bennett. After a brief courtship they married on May 29, 1964, in Ash Grove, Missouri. They then moved to Huron, South Dakota, where they spent the rest of their lives together until his untimely passing in 2020.
Throughout her life Donna worked in a few different fields. She sewed at Raven and as a result of her talents gained there, did mending on the side. She worked in a floral shop for a while gaining a love and appreciation of all plants and flowers. The job she was most proud of was her time working as a sales manager for many years at Radio Shack. She also worked briefly at the Grocery Outlet before retiring early due to an injury. Her retirement years were spent helping provide childcare for several of her beloved grandchildren.
More than anything Donna enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was so proud of each and every one of them and loved talking about their accomplishments. On weekends you could always find Dave and Donna driving the country side listening to old country music on the radio or at home watching NASCAR races on TV.
Donna was preceded in death by her husband, David Bennett; her parents; two sisters, Mildred Johnson and Linda Dowler; two brothers, Jimmy Fletcher and Gerald Fletcher; and one grandson, Damond Bennett.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her three children, Darwin (Torrie) Bennett of Huron, Deanna (Lance) Loecker of Yankton and Dwayne (Mirsa) Bennett of Huron; eight grandchildren, McKenzie, Cale, Gavin, Gabe, Landen, Emily, Emanuel, and Amy; two great-grandchildren, Presley and Macklynn; her brother, Paul Fletcher of Walnut Grove, Missouri; her best friend, Ruth Kelley; and many nieces and nephews.
