Donald Kleinsasser, age 72, of Huron, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2020, at the Sanford USD Medical Center, Sioux Falls, from heart issues.
His funeral service was live-streamed from the Kuhler Funeral Home Facebook page at 1:00 PM, Monday, June 22nd. https://www.facebook.com/KuhlerFuneralHome/
Burial will be in the Bethesda section of the Ideal Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1:00 to 5:00 PM, Sunday, June 21st at the Kuhler Funeral Home.
Memorials may be directed to the James Valley Christian School or Bethesda Church .
Donald Lee Kleinsasser was born July 5, 1947, to Edwin and Ruby (Wipf) Kleinsasser at Huron. He was raised on a farm near Hitchcock, attended Fairfield country school and graduated from James Valley Christian School.
On May 2, 1975, Don married Jane Bigelow at Huron. He then attended Mitchell Vo-Tech to become a certified journeyman; then began a career with Northwestern Public Service until his retirement.
During retirement, Don enjoyed riding his motorcycle, attending car races, and woodworking. He was an avid bowler, earning 6 perfect 300 games and 1 nearly perfect 299 game. With his birthday being July 5th, Don enjoyed the July 4th celebrations with fireworks.
Don and Jane enjoyed traveling together, especially their bi-annual family vacations with their daughter, Kristi and her family. He enjoyed spending time with extended family, especially on Wednesdays, Don could be found visiting his brother and sister-in-law, Jerome and Mona, enjoying Mona's freshly baked cookies.
Don was strong in his faith and was faithful in his daily devotions. He was an active member of the Bethesda Church, serving where he could, beginning with the sound system, helping with tasks at hand, and assisting alongside his wife with the "donut shop" serving coffee and donuts to church attendees.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Delbert Vasknetz; one sister-in-law, Deanna Kleinsasser; and two brothers-in-law, Jim Bigelow and Leon Hofer.
Grateful for having shared his life with him are his wife, Jane of Huron; their daughter, Kristi and her husband, Keith Lewis of Campbellsville, Kentucky; one grandson, Jonah; one brother, Jerome and his wife, Mona Kleinsasser of Hitchcock; two sisters, Selby and her husband, Glenn Hofer of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Dorothy and her husband, Craig Walters of Warsaw, Indiana; one sister-in-law, Judy and her husband, Ken Harris of Hillsboro, Texas; one brother-in-law, Jeff and his wife, Michele Bigelow of Mitchell; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
