Dona J. Sherman was born on April 10, 1933, at home near Iroquois to Warren Robert and Margaret Leslie Abel Sherman. Along with her older siblings, Dona grew up in the Lake Preston/Madison area. After graduating from Winfred High School, she moved to Huron, where she attended Northwestern College of Commerce. Dona worked for State Farm Insurance.

In 1956, Dona married Clarence Meyer. They established their home on the Meyer family farm south of Cavour. She liked country life, enjoying the seasons of farming and ranching. Here they raised their two daughters, Karen and Janet. After Clarence's death in 1983, she moved back to Huron.

Dona valued community, education, and serving others. She was active in P.E.O. Chapter AN, the Huron Community Concert Series, and General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC) – Fortnightly Club. A life-long member of the First Congregational Church, Dona served in various roles, including musician, Sunday School teacher, and committee member.

She might be best known for her gift of hospitality, coordinating meals and the church kitchen for countless events. These same values played out on a personal level too. Dona enjoyed her neighbors, friends, and family—always ready to host a spontaneous coffee party or gather people around her table for a home-cooked meal.

Dona was a life-long learner. Her world was big as she took an interest in others and their experiences. She opened her home to strangers who became friends. Dona cared for others in small yet meaningful ways like delivering meals, providing rides, giving of herself. It was a way of life for her to see a need and quietly meet it. For her, serving others was the outward sign of her faith and love for Jesus.

Dona was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; her parents; her infant brother, Myron; her brother, Robert and sister-in-law, Phyllis; her sister, Waneta and brother-in-law, Newton Potter; her sister-in-law, Doris (Meyer) Shepersky; her sister-in-law, Belva (Meyer) Blue and brother-in-law, George Blue; and her brother-in-law, Raymond Meyer.

She is survived by her daughters, Janet Meyer of Houston, Texas and Karen and son-in-law, Kevin Krueger of Tampa, Florida. Dona is also survived by her sister-in-law, Prudence Meyer of Bloomington, Minnesota; and her brother-in-law, Dean Shepersky of Woodbury, Minnesota.
