Delbert Dean Tschetter, age 91, of Huron, passed away Friday, January 17, 2025, at the Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell.

His funeral service was held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 25, at Mount Olivet Church, Huron. Burial followed in the Ideal Cemetery with military honors by the Huron Veterans Council. His service was live-streamed .

Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday, January 24, at the Kuhler Funeral Home, with the family present during that time.

Delbert Dean Tschetter was born January 23, 1933, the son of David and Mary (Walter) Tschetter, in Huron, South Dakota. He attended schools in Huron and graduated from Huron High School.

On October 29, 1954, Delbert married Clara Larsen in Huron, South Dakota. The couple lived in San Diego, California while Delbert was stationed in the United States Navy. They then moved to the family farm near Huron, South Dakota.

Delbert served his country in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Boxer during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1957. While in the service, he received the Good Conduct and the National Defense Service Medals.

Delbert worked at Armour's in Huron until it closed in 1997. He went on to drive semis, hauling hay to Texas and delivering mail for the USPS to small towns in South Dakota. Delbert also worked long hours on the farm raising cattle, hogs and sheep over the years.

Delbert was a member of the Mount Olivet Mennonite Church in Huron, as well as the Huron VFW Post #1776.

Grateful for having shared in Delbert's life are his sons, Gary (Sharon) Tschetter of Huron, South Dakota, Brian (Diane) Tschetter of Scottsdale, Arizona and Roy (Patti) Tschetter of Huron, South Dakota; his daughter, Brenda (Brad) Bawdon of Alpena, South Dakota. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ashley (Mike) Pelton of Arizona, Jennifer Tschetter of Arizona, Lindsey (Alex) Machuca of Arizona, David Tschetter of Arizona, Rachel (Jeremy) Nebelsick of Minnesota, Michael (Cecile) Tschetter of Huron, South Dakota, Tiffany Bawdon of Woonsocket, South Dakota and Christopher Bawdon of Broadland, South Dakota; his great-grandchildren, Westin and Corbin Nebelsick of Minnesota, Kailey and Kinsley Pelton of Arizona, and Hartley, Houston and Hayden Tschetter of Huron, South Dakota; his step-granddaughter-in-law, Lori Christmas of Washington; his step-great-grandchild, Courtney (Sean) Callaghan of California; his step-great-great-grandchildren, Declan, Liam and Rory Callaghan, all of California; his sister-in-law, Kathryn Larsen of Wessington Springs, South Dakota; and several nieces and nephews.

Delbert was preceded in death by his wife, Clara in 2022; one son, Dale Tschetter; his parents, David and Mary Tschetter; his brother, Donald Tschetter; one step-grandson, Troy; his parents-in-law, Martin and Sella Larsen; his brothers-in-law, Arthur (Phyllis) Larsen, Earl (Marcella) Larsen, Ivan (Karen) Larsen and Carl Larsen; and his sisters-in-law, Ellen Larsen, Amanda Larsen and Loretta Larsen.
