David Thompson, age 77, of Huron, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2024, at the Huron Regional Medical in Huron.
His visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Saturday, July 20, at the Kuhler Funeral Home. Military rites will conclude the visitation at 4:00 PM. His service will be live-streamed .
David Thompson was born June 2, 1947, to Robert and Joyce (Radke) Thompson, in Huron, South Dakota. After attending high school, he entered the military, and proudly served there for six years. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, earning several medals for his service, and was discharged in December 1969. When he was honorably discharged, he married the love of his life, Rose (Amata) Thompson, and they shared 35 years together.
After his service in the Army, he was a welder at Huron Culvert and Tank, now TrueNorth Steel, for the rest of his career. He was a handyman, fixing and tinkering with everything he could get his hands on. He was also a dedicated member of the VFW and the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Joyce Thompson.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, Rose Thompson of Huron; his children, Heather (Monte) Fristad of Mt. Vernon, James Thompson of Sioux Falls, and Michael Thompson of Sioux Falls; his grandchildren, Austin Rearick, Ava Ferguson, Tanner Thompson, and Sutton Fristad; and his two loyal dogs, Chico and Charli. He is also survived by his brothers, John Thompson, Gerald (Judy) Thompson, Duane (Paula) Thompson and Dallas (Nancy) Thompson and several nieces and nephews.
