Obituary

David Diehl, age 74, of Huron, passed away Sunday, September 2, 2018, at his home, surrounded by family. His funeral service was held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, September 8th at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Black Hills National Cemetery at a later date.
David Irvin Diehl was born on May 26, 1944, at Chicago, Illinois to Paul and Eileen (Castor) Diehl. He grew up in Duluth, Minnesota; and graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1963. He was united in marriage to Louise Brown on September 3, 1971, at Silver Bay, Minnesota.
David served 24 years in the United States Air Force as a heavy ground radar technician. He served overseas in many areas including Guam, Philippines, Thailand and Japan. David attended Community College of Air Force where he received an associate degree in electrical engineering. Upon retirement, he joined the Federal Aviation Administration, where he worked as an electronics technician for 24 years.
He enjoyed many hobbies and gadgets, old tube radios, stock car racing, projects around the church and helping friends. He was especially proud of the work he was able to do in the building of his own home.
David was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the American Legion. He helped build many homes for Habitat for Humanity.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Grateful for having shared in David's life are his wife, Louise of Huron; his son, Todd and Ann Diehl of Huron; his daughter, Mary and David Kelvie of Owatonna, Minnesota; seven grandchildren, Allie, Shawn and Tason Diehl, all of Huron, Quincy Burdick of Geneva, Nebraska and Jack, Kayla and Noelle Kelvie, all of Owatonna, Minnesota; his brother, Rev. Tim and Gayle Diehl of Hollandale, Minnesota; his father-in-law, Rollie Brown of Gothenburg, Nebraska; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Leslie and Diane Brown of Gothenburg, Nebraska, Dan and Rebecca Brown of Lincoln, Nebraska and Bonnie and John McCarthy of Denton, Texas; his nieces and nephews and their families; and many friends.
