Daniel Roger Schlader was born June 18, 1968, to Roger and Sally (Pedersen) Schlader at Dell Rapids. When Dan was 3 years old, the Schlader family moved to Huron. He attended St. Martin's Catholic School and then Huron High School, graduating in 1986.
During high school, Dan worked at Taco Johns. After high school, he worked at Huron Steel Structures, Marko Steel and Trussbuilt. In 1994, he joined the Huron Police Department. Dan was named sergeant in early 2000.
On July 10, 1999, Dan married Terri Anderson at St. Martin's Catholic Church. They continued their lives together in Huron, and added to their family by having two sons, Brenden and Brayden.
In following his sons' many activities, Brenden kept Dan and Terri busy with his playing soccer and tennis and his many vocal activities. Brayden's activities offered for more volunteering opportunities with the Special Olympics, helping Brayden and his team with their bowling competitions.
Along with serving and protecting the Huron community, Dan also volunteered with the Huron Ambulance Crew, Huron Fire Department and the Beadle County Dive Team. Dan also enjoyed participating in Shop With A Cop and the Special Olympics Torch Run.
Dan adored his sons and wife. He was amazed by Terri's strength in caring for him and their family.
He also enjoyed many kinds of hunting and fishing, all the while spending time with his family and friends. Mentoring friends and family in hunting and fishing was important to Dan.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; one brother in infancy; one nephew; and his step-father, Sidney Brondsema.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, Terri and their sons, Brenden and Brayden, all of Huron; his father, Roger (Nancy Miles) Schlader of Rapid City; his mother, Sally Brondsema of Sioux Falls; two sisters, Angie (Wade) Mulder of Sioux Falls and Michele Stucky of Mitchell; one step-sister, Morgan VonHaden; numerous nieces and nephews; and his entire Huron first responder family.
