Obituary

Daniel Paul Horn, age 85, of Huron, passed away peacefully on Saturday March 7, 2026, at Avera Queen of Peace in Mitchell after a short illness with Covid.

His memorial service was held at 11:00 AM, Monday, March 16, at the Kuhler Funeral Home. Burial was in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Military honors were conducted by the Huron Veteran's Council. His service was live-streamed.

His visitation was held one hour prior to the service on Monday.

Daniel Paul Horn, son of Erwin and Lula Mae (Schubert) Horn, was born December 15, 1940, in Alpena, SD. He was the oldest of seven children. His family was living on a farm near Virgil, SD at the time of his birth. He attended grade school in Vernon Township, at Halsey Grade School, and graduated from Huron High School.

He enlisted in the South Dakota National Guard as a senior in high school and served until an injury occurred and was honorably discharged.

He was a farmhand in his younger years, he also worked at Amour's and Dakota Pork, and as a welder. He was active in racing, he also enjoyed various things including hunting, leatherwork, gunsmithing, as well as being an active writer with articles published in several magazines.

He married Jeannie Ellen McBride on April 30, 1966, in Huron, SD. Following their marriage they lived on a farm west of Virgil. Then later they moved to Huron, where they made their home.

Daniel is survived by three children Larry Horn, Carol (Paul) Cozine and Nancy Horn; two grandchildren, Tysen (Abby) Parker and Kylynn (Alex) Stahl; three great-grandchildren, Daniel Parker, Hunter Parker and Addisen Parker; all of Huron, SD:

Daniel is also survived by one sister, Pearl (Kenny) Klages of Miller, SD; two brothers, Joel (Theresea) Horn of Huron, SD and Francis (Vicki) Horn of Douglas, Wyoming; one sister-in-law, Diane Horn of Gillette, Wyoming; two brothers-in-laws, George (Evie) McBride of Sioux Falls, SD and Ben (Thetna) McBride of Hermosa, SD; and one sister-in-law, Joan McBride of Huron, SD.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannie; his parents as well as Jeanie’s parents; his brothers, Bruce Horn, Roland Horn and Lowrance Horn; his brothers-in-law, James McBride and Larry McBride; and his son-in-law, James Parker.
