Colin Dean Royal, age 61, of Huron passed away Thursday, May 18, 2023, at his home.

His memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 3 at the Western Way Cowboy Church in Huron. His service will be live-streamed through the church's Facebook page.

Inurnment will be at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, at a later date.

Colin Dean Royal was born March 6, 1962, at St. John's Hospital in Huron to Marvin Dean and Patricia Jean (Hurst) Royal. During high school, he was fostered by Dick and Linda Poppen of Spirit Lake, SD. He graduated from Iroquois High School in 1980. During that summer, Colin enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he proudly served for the next 12 years. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, he moved to Pennsylvania for a few years, before moving back to South Dakota. There he met DeLores Peskey, who he married on December 2, 2001, in Fedora, SD.

Colin owned a computer services business in Huron for several years, before retiring in 2010. He was a Paid Up For Life member of the American Legion and Past Commander of the Sons of the American Legion.

Colin enjoyed computers, fishing, gardening and researching ancestry. He discovered additional family members through his research and was very excited when he met them, while visiting his children in Georgia. He loved his grandchildren and was always excited to spend time with them. Colin was also a member of Endeavor Presbyterian Church in Fedora.

He was preceded in death by his parents and step-parents, Marvin (Peggy) Royal, Patricia (Leander) Raether; his brother, Monty; his brother-in-law, Bob Bentz; his mother-in-law, Carolyn Peskey; his nephews, Eric Moe and Robert Bentz; his niece, Renee Dawn Jansen; and his great-niece, Judith M. Carlson.

Survivors include, his wife, DeLores; his children, M. Dean (Charity) Royal of Macon, GA, Paula (Paul) Oakley of St. Marys, GA, Joseph (Katie) Peskey of Freeman, Richele Royal of Huron and AJ Royal of Huron; ten grandchildren; his father-in-law, Richard L. Peskey, Sr. of Huron; his siblings, Deb Raether, Connie Bentz, Val Royal, Leon Rather, Greg Raether, Renee Evans, Patrick Raether, Karen Carter, Diane Turner, Marilynn Dostroph and James Jernigan; many nieces and nephews; along with his special puppy, Rusty.
