Catherine "Cathy" Rist, age 69, of Huron, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at Avantara – Huron.

Her funeral service was held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, June 1st, at the Kuhler Funeral Home. Burial was in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Her service was be live-streamed through the Kuhler Funeral Home website  .

Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Catherine Rist was born January 15, 1953, to Paul and Virginia (Wilson) Rist at Viborg, South Dakota. After moving to Huron in 1966, Cathy attended the Helen Buchanan School, which made for a wonderful place for Cathy to learn and make life-long friends.

Cathy continued her education at a cooking school in Mitchell, she graduated from there and returned to Huron. She went on to work at the Huron Regional Medical Center in food service.

She loved children and enjoyed babysitting. Cathy and her mother enjoyed doing numerous kinds of crafts together. They would sew doll clothes to dress Cathy's doll collection. Cathy was extremely talented with a crochet hook and yarn, creating many afghans and she then would donate them to the Jan Manolis Family Safe Center. She also enjoyed coloring the intricate pages of adult coloring books.

Cathy enjoyed all kinds of music. Together with her mother, they would open their home to host the members "Up With People" as they toured and performed in the area.

Cathy and her mom liked to travel. They visited extended family and attended annual family reunions. Along their travels, Cathy would also ask to have time to check out the shopping centers and stores, as she enjoyed shopping. She loved living in Huron, and enjoyed shopping for hours at Walmart.

She was an active and long-time member of the American Lutheran Church.

Cathy lived at Avantara the last few years of her life where she received excellent care and lots of love.

She was preceded in death by her father, Paul in 1992; her mother, Virginia in 2017; one brother-in-law, Martin Bolger in 2020; and her brother, Andy Rist in 2022.

Grateful for having shared her life are her two sisters, Mary Bolger of Newbury Park, California and Susan Jennerjahn of Huron; and her nieces and nephews, Melinda (Chad) Roper, Marty (Jen) Bolger, Med Bolger and Sarah (Andy) Cummings; her great-nieces and great-nephews, Blake, Haven, Jack and Evie; and her many special relatives and friends.
