Carrie Lee Watkins, 65, of Huron, died Monday, July 2, 2018, at home. At her request there will be no services.
Carrie Lee Van Poll was born in Minneapolis June 20, 1953, to Cornelius "Van" and Marian (Freese) Van Poll. The family moved to Seattle, where she graduated from Nathan Hale High School in 1971. After graduation she joined the U.S. Air Force. While stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico, she met and married Msgt. Don Watkins. After receiving an Honorable Discharge, she went to Singapore with her husband where they were stationed for three years. After he retired from the Air Force, they returned to Albuquerque. She earned a bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of New Mexico. After her husband's death, she met Mike Smetzer and moved to Florida and later to Huron.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a brother, Hubert "Sonny" Van Poll; and a sister, Carol Van Poll.
Carrie is survived by her partner, Mike Smetzer of Huron; a sister, Louise Van Poll and her husband, Ron Reed of Huron; three nephews; one niece; and one grandniece.
