Obituary

Caroline Eichstadt, age 89, of Huron and formerly of Wolsey, died Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service was at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, March 11th, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wolsey with the Rev. L. Scott Spiehs, officiating. Burial was in the St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Caroline Alice Johnson was born on September 12, 1925, to August W. and Lydia (Becker) Johnson in Sully County, South Dakota. She was one of three children. Caroline attended various schools throughout her childhood and graduated from Agar High School in 1944. Following graduation Caroline worked at J.J. Newberry's and Northwestern Public Service until she married. She married her husband of 65 years, Fredrick Eichstadt on December 31, 1947, at Mt. Calvary Parsonage in Huron, South Dakota.
Following their marriage, Fred and Caroline worked diligently to establish their own family farming operation that continues through today with their son Dan. Caroline was a devoted farm wife, who dedicated her life to caring for her husband and children. Throughout her life, Caroline was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Wolsey.
Caroline was a talented seamstress who made all four of her children's clothing. She was a wonderful cook who was known for her home cooked meals. In later years, following Fred and Caroline's retirement, they enjoyed many years of camping with family on the Missouri River. After moving to the SunQuest Health Care Center in Huron, Caroline enjoyed socializing and always dressed nicely with jewelry and her nails done.
She was preceded in death by her husband Fredrick, her parents; one brother, Wesley; brothers-in-law, Dale, Mark, Martin, Richard, and Robert; sisters-in-law Edith, Evelyn, Lorene, Mildred, and Vaneida.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her children, Karen (David) Muller of Spearfish, Dave (Darla) Eichstadt of Huron, Dan Eichstadt of Wolsey, and Janet (Russell) Jungemann of Wolsey; eleven grandchildren, Kristin and James Walti (Kourtney, Karson, Kaden) of Pierre, Keith and Jenny Muller (Josephine) of Washington DC, Ryan and Becky Eichstadt (Ellie, Eastyn, Jake) of Huron, Jamie and Spencer White (Hayden, Aspen, Archer) of Huron, Jennifer Eichstadt and Bill of Mitchell, Barry Eichstadt (Maddie, Landon) of Wolsey, Rachel Eichstadt and Ryan of Mitchell, Lucas and Kari Jungemann of Wolsey, Libby and Jamie Flemming (Brooklyn, Mya, Reagan) of Wolsey, Adam Jungemann of Sioux Falls, and Emily and Cody Stahl of Bridgewater; four step grandchildren, Joe Wenzel (August, Jared) of Mitchell, Briana Rodriguez and Luis (Gianna, Julian, Sophia, Akemi) of Huron, Jason Jeffries of Iowa, and Kathy Jeffries-Shogren and Marty (Katie, Alex) of Iowa; one sibling, Norman Johnson of Missouri; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Sibbers of Huron, Delores Eichstadt of Wolsey, and Jane Eichstadt of Texas; two brothers-in-law, Paul (Kathryn) Eichstadt of Wolsey, and Willis Eichstadt of Oregon; and many nieces and nephews.
