Carl Rae Iverson was born August 20, 1955, to John and Edna (Kuper) Iverson at Miller. He grew up on the family farm north of Ree Heights. Later the family moved in to Ree Heights and Carl graduated from Miller High School, where he played exceptional basketball games.
After graduation, Carl joined the United States Army from 1975 to 1978, and served as military police, stationed in Germany. After his honorable discharge, Carl worked one year as a police officer in Miller. He was then the deputy sheriff for Clark County for three years. He later worked in Huron at Riverside Manufacturing, Dakota Pork and then Trussbilt, until his retirement.
On December 15, 1990, Carl married Lana Hauglid VanBuskirk. They lived in Hitchcock for over 30 years.
If you knew Carl, you knew him to be nice, kind and "one heck of a fisherman". He loved to hunt and fish. Ice fishing was his favorite. He was a hard worker and whatever he did, he did well.
On his last Saturday, Carl caught a proud angler perch. He never liked to leave the water until he caught his limit. Not too often was he skunked. Carl left us doing what he loved to do. The fish do not have to fear him anymore.
He loved when the grandkids came to spend time with him and Grandma. He enjoyed teaching them about hunting and fishing.
Carl was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was Lana's "Tom Selleck." He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Stanley; and grandson, Jackson VanBuskirk.
Having shared in his life are his wife, Lana of Hitchcock; step-daughter, Anna VanBuskirk (Rodney Rich) of Aberdeen; step-son, James (Holly) VanBuskirk of Hitchcock; step-grandchildren, Vince VanBuskirk of Aberdeen and Parker and Kade VanBuskirk of Hitchcock; step-great-grandchildren, Bjorn Green of Howard, Luke and Kara VanBuskirk of Phoenix, Arizona, and Ryker VanBuskirk and Layton Roberson of Long, Lake.
Carl will also be missed by his brother, James (Eleanor) Iverson of Miller; sister, Betty Iverson of San Antonio, Texas; sisters-in-law, Shirley Iverson of Cornville, Arizona, Sharon (Hauglid) Hawkins of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, Linda Hauglid of Malmo, Minnesota, Lori (Hauglid) and Dan Houle of Ely, Minnesota; brothers-in-law, Lud Hauglid and Terry Hauglid of Malmo, Minnesota; and his nieces and nephews, Kendra and Karis Iverson of Arizona, Michaela Iverson of Howard and John Iverson of Spearfish.
