Bruce Eichstadt, age 83, of Huron and formerly of Wolsey, passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2026, under care of HRMC Hospice at the Country View Estates with his daughter present.

His memorial service was held at 11:00 AM, Monday, August 17, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Wolsey. Military honors were conducted by the Hershman-Gordon American Legion Post #59. His service was live-streamed.

Visitation with family present will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 PM, Sunday, August 16, at the Kuhler Funeral Home. A time of sharing was held.

Memorials may be directed to the Dakota Dog Rescue.

Bruce Eichstadt was born April 25, 1943, to Robert and Mildred (Moller) Eichstadt at Huron. He grew up on the family farm near Wolsey and received his education at Wolsey. In 1963, Bruce joined the United States Airforce and proudly served his country for four years, earning an Air Force Good Conduct Medal in the process. In 1967, he had to come home under a family hardship discharge to help take care of the younger members of his family.

He married Irene Harmon on February 10, 1979, in Wolsey, and to this union, they had one daughter, Becky.

Bruce enjoyed working on his farm. He also drove trucks for many years. In his free time, he could be found tinkering and fixing anything he could get his hands on. He regularly attended tractor and other motor events, like Wheel Jam, Antique Power Show, or Red Power Round Up. He was also incredibly fond of animals, having a special affinity for his dogs. Bruce was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, having been baptized, confirmed, and passing in the faith. He wore many hats in the church, fulfilling roles as usher, school teacher, and elder. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene on July 11, 2024; his parents, Robert and Mildred Eichstadt; his siblings, Tim Eichstadt, Tom Eichstadt, and Mary Boetel; his parents-in-law, Jake and Lois Harmon; and his in-laws, Bill, Jim, Larry, Dave, Thomas and Jenny Harmon.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his daughter, Becky (Steve) DeBoer of Huron; his siblings, Dee Chapman of Huron, Dennis Eichstadt of Sioux Falls, Bruce Boetel of Brookings, Diane Eichstadt of Norfolk, Nebraska, and Merle (Pam) Eichstadt of Huron; his in-laws, Joe (Edith) Harmon of Spearfish, John (Faun) Harmon of Piedmont, Dee (Ed) Fleming of Bridgeport, Nebraska; Mina (Ron) Caldwell of Fort Pierre, Mary Harmon of Pierre and Kaye Harmon of El Reno, Oklahoma; his special friend, Roger Vetter of Wolsey; his long time military friend, Dewey Moose of Charlotte, North Carolina; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and close friends.

The family would also like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers from Independent Health Solutions, Country View, and HRMC Hospice who treated Bruce like one of their own.
