Lynd
September 24, 1934 – February 21, 2019
Beverly Lynd, age 84, of Huron, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2019, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service was held at 10:30 AM, Monday, February 25th, at the Kuhler Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the Western Way Cowboy Church, HRMC Home Health and Hospice Programs or the HRMC Foundation.
Beverly Joan Thompson was born September 24, 1934, to John E and Leila (Bloomer) Thompson, in Lebanon, Kansas. As the youngest child of John and Leila, her older siblings were grown and had left home, when Beverly was needed to help with the chores before and after school. This is where her love for all animals and the outdoors began. While attending high school in Lebanon, she was a pitcher for her softball team and was involved in cheerleading.
After her high school graduation, Bev was inspired to be a flight attendant for Pan American Airlines. She moved to Omaha, Nebraska, with a friend to attend flight attendant training. It was then she realized that her job would require a lot of travel in an actual airplane, and decided she wanted nothing to do with it. She then returned to the Lebanon area where she did secretarial work and met the future love of her life.
On May 31, 1953, Beverly married J.D. Lynd in Lebanon, Kansas. They had four children; James, Connie, Dennis, and Darrin. She enjoyed being a mother to her four children, supporting them in all of their sports and 4-H activities, as well as the Huron Rodeo Association. Bev also enjoyed being a second mother to many of her friend's children and her children's friends.
In the 1970's, when her children were in school, Bev would work at the courthouse during election times and at Pioneer Seed, where she bagged and labeled detasseled corn. Beverly was very supportive of J.D.'s side businesses, doing the bookkeeping and scheduling for Lynd Photography and Huron Buggy Works.
She attended the First Baptist Church and the Western Way Cowboy Church, where she added to her long list of friends.
Beverly was passionate about animals, especially horses and dogs. She enjoyed attending horse races, going on trail rides, camping with family and friends, attending rodeos, and spending quality time with those she loved. Along with J.D., she learned to enjoy sports, particularly the Minnesota Twins, Kansas City Chiefs and Royals, Denver Broncos, and attended several Colorado Rockies games with family. Her greatest joy was being a part of her grandchildren's life journeys.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her four siblings, Martha Collier, Thelma Marsden, Lynn Thompson and Wayne Merrill "Bud" Thompson; and her husband, J.D., on August 31, 2013.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her four children, James (Wendy) Lynd of Vacaville, California, Connie (Scott) Miller of Denver, Colorado, Dennis Lynd of Huron, South Dakota, and Darrin (Danette) Lynd of Urbandale, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Jamie Lynd of San Francisco, California, Tracy Lynd of Vacaville, California, Whitney Miller of Denver, Colorado, Maverick Miller of Dallas, Texas, Erin (Ryan) Jacobson of Winthrop, Minnesota, Chase Lynd of Huron, South Dakota, Sarah Lynd of Aberdeen, South Dakota, and Joshua Lynd of Urbandale, Iowa; and two great grandchildren, Marti and Cole Jacobson of Winthrop, Minnesota.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the many amazing Huron Regional Medical Center Home Health providers and the wonderful, compassionate Hospital nurses who cared for Beverly throughout the years. We would especially like to recognize the ICU Nurses for their support and comfort to our family.
And lastly, Beverly's family would like to thank her many friends who have supported her throughout the years, for their assistance and extreme kindness. Your love and support will remain in our hearts forever.
