Beth Marlene Brenner, age 90, of Huron, passed away on August 2, 2025, at her home.
Her funeral service was held at 10:00 AM, Friday August 8, at the Grace Episcopal Church, with burial in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Her visitation, with the family present, was held August 7, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Kuhler Funeral Home.
Beth was born on April 2, 1935, in Chamberlain, South Dakota, to Mary (Wells) and William Petersen. Her family first lived on her grandparents, Peter and Caroline Petersen's farm west of Gann Valley. Then they moved to the family farm north of Pukwana. In the 1940s, she attended grade school at Shelby Country School. She graduated from Pukwana High School in 1953. During her freshman year at Huron College, she introduced Eleanor Roosevelt who was speaking on the importance of the United Nations at the Huron Arena on April 24, 1954. In 1954, she was married to Teddy Ankle and they had Zonya and Zandra Ankle.
Beth graduated from Huron College in 1971, with a BS degree in business administration. She married Arlan Brenner on October 10, 1971, and they had Zeyna Brenner. She was a Girl Scout leader for 17 years, including Zeyna's troupe from her second grade through her senior year. Beth taught Sunday school for 9 years, sang in the church choir, and served as secretary at Grace Episcopal Church in Huron. She worked for 6 years at Huron University Library and loved meeting students from all over the United States and other countries.
She worked on family genealogy, loved reading, had a huge doll collection, and sewed doll clothes and quilts. Beth loved going to her grandchildren's school activities including music and sports. She also enjoyed spending time at the Senior Center and delivering Meals on Wheels with Arlan.
She is survived by her husband, Arlan Brenner; her brother, Larry (Janice) Petersen; sister-in-law, Shirley Brenner; her daughters, Zonya (Darryl) Tantype, Zandra Ankle and Zeyna (Dean) Kleinsasser; her grandchildren, Tonya Thomas, Marisa (Brad) Redlinger, Antonio Franklin Jr., Sean Franklin, Jasmine Hawes, Cecelia Kleinsasser, Madeline Kleinsasser and Jacob Kleinsasser; and nine great-grandchildren.
Beth was preceded in death by her parents, Mary (Wells) and William Petersen; her maternal grandparents, Emma (Johnson) from Norway and William Wells; her paternal grandparents, Caroline (Westphal) from Germany and Peter Petersen from Denmark; her granddaughter, Sharmaine Hawes; her brother, Ronald Petersen and his wife, Alona Petersen; her sister-in-law, Sandra Weisner; and her brother-in-law, Donald Brenner.
