Bela Groenhoff, age 91, of Belle Fourche, South Dakota, died November 27, 2015, at the home of her daughter, Ann and her husband, Gary Lien, where she had made her home for the past five years due to illness.
Her memorial service was at 4:00 PM, Saturday, June 4th at the Riverview United Methodist Church, Huron. A private burial was held in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Bela Violet Waldner was born September 28, 1924, to Andrew J. "Steve" and Anna (Tschetter) Waldner, on their family farm in Beadle County. She attended country school through the eighth grade and graduating from Doland High School in 1942. She attended Northwest College of Commerce of Huron and later worked for Standard Oil, Lewis Drug, and K-mart.
On September 15, 1946, Bela was united in marriage to Raymond Groenhoff of Alpena, South Dakota. They lived and farmed in the Alpena area until April 27, 1976, when her husband, Ray passed away suddenly from a heart attack.
In her retirement years, she was a caregiver to elderly ladies in their homes.
Bela enjoyed the outdoors working in her yard, garden and flower beds. She also enjoyed quilting, sewing for her girls and reading.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray; and two great-grandsons.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her four daughters, Bonnie Lenning of California, Ann and her husband, Gary Lien of Belle Fourche, Nancy Groenhoff of California and Donna Stanley of Ohio; one sister, Donna Glanzer of Carpenter; one brother, Larry and his wife, Eileen Waldner of Huron; nine grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
