Obituary

Barbara Kohlman, age 87, of Huron, passed into the arms of the Lord Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.

Her funeral service was held at 1:00 PM, Monday, July 6, at the American Lutheran Church. Burial followed in the Riverside Cemetery. Her service was live-streamed.

Her visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Barbara Evelyn Morse was born on a farm near Bonilla, South Dakota, February 25, 1939, to Chester and Evelyn (Tipton) Morse. Barbara grew up on farms around the area, attending a one room school house east of Hitchcock and then school in Bonilla. She later graduated from Tulare High School.

After graduation, Barbara moved to Huron and worked at Art Pugsley Construction as a secretary and bookkeeper.

On April 7, 1958, Barbara married Dean Kohlman at the American Lutheran Church, Huron. To this union, they had four children: Todd, Paula, Kristy and Michelle. They were blessed to share 44 years together, before his passing on October 29, 2002.

Dean’s employment with Montgomery Ward took them around the Midwest for many years. While raising their family, Barbara also sold real estate in Indiana, sold Avon and Mary Kay, and worked for Northwest Pipe in Kansas City. When Barbara and Dean returned to Huron to retire, she started the rewarding career of taking care of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her mother.

Barbara was a faithful and long-time member of the American Lutheran Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her twin brother at birth, Burton Morse; her parents; her husband; one granddaughter, Kirsten Kohlman; and two great-grandchildren, Veda Garland and Blake Henry David Dockter.

Barbara is survived by her children, Todd Kohlman of Huron; Paula (Dennis) Garland of Des Moines, Iowa, Kristy (David) Huizenga of Bismarck, North Dakota and Michelle (Mark) Sibley of Huron; 14 grandchildren, Kurt Kohlman, Logan (Jackie) Kohlman, Sara (Josh) Gardner, Wade Kohlman, Megan Kohlman, Abby Chandler, Sarah (Nick) Sirianni, Brenton (Jessica) and Keith (Miranda) Garland, Travis (Katie) Huizenga, Katie (Matthew) Dockter, Matthew, Gabriel and Matthew (Hannah) Sibley; 23 great-grandchildren, Dante Kohlman, Harper Gardner, Everly Kohlman, Wrenley Goetz, Will and Anna Chandler, Noah, Drew, Ryan and Elle Sirianni, Levi, Emme, Wesley, Otto and Lucy Garland, Ashtyn and Avery Miller, Paisley, Ryann and Thomas Dockter, and Lucas, Reagan and Theodore Sibley; as well many nieces and nephews.
