His funeral service was at 10:30 AM, Saturday, March 14th, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ryan Maxted, officiating. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery. Military honors were presented by the Huron Veterans Council.
August Neitzert was born February 16, 1932, in Huron, to August and Natalia (Hartwig) Neitzert. He grew up in Huron. After finishing his education, August began employment at Armour & Company, but interrupted his career to serve in the US Army from 1951 - 1954, serving in Korea.
He was married to Grace Holsapple at Marysville, Kansas on June 7, 1954. They had met when August was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas. August and Grace made their home in Huron, where August returned to work at Armour & Company and continued his employment there when the business was sold to Swift, and then to Dakota Pork. He retired in 1992. He later worked for the Broadland Creek Golf Course for a few summers.
August was a member of First United Methodist Church. August was active with the Boy Scouts, serving as the camping leader for Troop "2" for many years. August enjoyed his dogs, music and lawn care. He was an avid gardener, growing various vegetables and flowers, and tending his apple trees and Purple Martin bird houses. Tinkering in his garage was his favorite hobby and according to his family, if anything needed repair, August was sure to know how to fix it. After his retirement he repaired small engines for his friends and acquaintances.
