Obituary

Arlene Walter, age 90, of Huron, passed away Sunday, November 18, 2018, at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. Her funeral service was held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 24th at the Mount Olivet Church. Burial was in the Mount Olivet Church section of Ideal Cemetery.
Arlene Verda Decker was born on March 17, 1928, in Frankfort, South Dakota to John and Katie Decker. She grew up in the Yale area and graduated from Huron High School. She married Byron Walter on August 29,1948. Together they enjoyed raising two daughters; Carmen Holland and Dawn Almond and two sons, Dallas and Rex Walter.
Besides helping Byron on the family farm, Arlene attended Huron College to become a teacher. She taught 3 years of country school in a one room schoolhouse but gave up teaching to become a fulltime mom. Some years later she began working at the Café at Magness Livestock and also at Cliff's Cafe in Yale. Later Arlene began working at K-Mart, eventually retiring from there. Arlene taught Sunday School at Mount Olivet Church all the years her children were attending. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, relaxing with family and friends at their cabin at Lake Byron, and camping with her husband, Byron in their motor home. They took trips to California to visit friends and family,but the Black Hills was always their favorite vacation destination.
Arlene will be missed by her daughters, Carmen Holland of Oak View, California, and Dawn (Larry) Almond of the Black Hills, sons, Dallas of Cavour and Rex of Huron; grandchildren, Corey Holland of Ventura, California, Lance (Milly) Holland of Ojai, California and Dustin Holland of Ojai, California, Jessica (Raymond) Horsley of Pierre, (Nikki) Walter of Aberdeen, Jesse (Kristi) Walter of Woodbury, Minnesota, Justin Almond of Rapid City, and Reece (Candis) Almond of Sioux Falls; great-grandchildren, Dylan Holland of Oak View, California, Morgan and Vann Holland of Ojai, California, Addison Walter of Aberdeen, Emily Walter of Woodbury, Minnesota, and Kylen, Damen, Noah, and Kaydence Horsley of Pierre. Arlene is also survived by her sister, Joyce Ybarra of Woodland Hills, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Byron; grandson, Nathan Walter; and daughter-in-law, Carol Walter.
