Ardes Emogene Holmberg was born August 10, 1924, to Harry and Lillie (Blom) Holmberg, at Lignite, North Dakota. She was married to Theodore Spaulding, at Minot, North Dakota, on February 3, 1946. After an extended four year honeymoon at various United States Army posts, they moved to Huron in 1950, where they purchased their farm. They spent the next 52 years there, raising their children. After the death of her husband in 2002, Ardes remained on the family farm where she was living at the time of her death.
Ardes enjoyed traveling, first with her husband, and later with her children. She loved Norway and visited twice. In 2013, she traveled to Ireland, which then became another favorite place. She and Ted also divided their time between Huron and their vacation home in Key Allegro, Texas.
In August of 2014, on her 90th birthday, she was thrilled to have all of her children, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and long-time friends attend a birthday party in her honor.
Ardes was a devoted mother, and wife, and always fully committed to everything she did, and those she loved.
She was a member of Eastern Star, Beadle County Republicans, Republican Women, NARFE, and the Sons of Norway. She was a baptized member of the American Lutheran Church in Mohall, North Dakota, and later was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Huron.
