Obituary

Anna Tompkins, age 98, of Wayzata, Minnesota, and formerly of Huron, died November 14, 2015. Her funeral service was held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 21st at First Presbyterian Church in Huron. Memorials may be directed to Alzheimers Association, First Presbyterian Church of Huron or Golden Living/Hillcrest Nursing Center, Wayzata, MN.
Anna Kathleen Cavanaugh Rietz Wetrich Tompkins was born on December 17, 1916, in rural Potter County, South Dakota, to James and Nettie (Barr) Cavanaugh, the second child of twelve and the first girl.She attended rural school in Sully County and graduated from Agar High School in 1936. Anna attended Mitchell Business College and then worked as secretary/bookkeeper for The American Optical Company and Drs. Mabee and Mabee in Mitchell.
On November 30, 1940, Anna married Frank Rietz. They lived in Huron and Aberdeen.Frank Rietz died in 1949. Anna then went to work for Standard Oil Company in Huron until 1952 when she married Ralph Wetrich. They lived in Huron, Aberdeen, Dallas, Santa Barbara, and Sacramento, returning to Huron when Ralph retired in 1968. Ralph died in 1980. Anna married Louis Tompkins in 1995. He died in 2007.
Anna was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Huron and had served as a deacon and an elder. She was a member of Presbyterian Women and acted as treasurer of that organization for many years.She was also a member of Pastime Bowling League, Quiz CEF Club and belonged to several bridge clubs.
Anna was preceded in death by her three husbands; her parents; four brothers; two sisters; a step daughter-in-law; and two stepsons.
She is survived by two brothers, Gerald Cavanaugh and Keith Cavanaugh andthree sisters, Elsie Shoup, Alice Evanick and Gert Grieme. In addition daughter, Lois (Dennis) Heinzen; son, Rick (Amely) Jackson; step daughters-in-law; Sarah Wetrich and Millicent Wetrich; grandchildren, Tom (Julie) Heinzen, Kathleen (John) Cummings, Beverly (Elias) Aza, Susan (Charles) Quinn, Debbie (Don) Snider, Michael (Sandy) Wetrich, Monica (Scott) Healy, Janet (Gary) Hayes, Jeanne (Robert) Coviello, James Wetrich, Gary Wetrich, Eric (Marissa Moy) Wetrich; great-grandchildren, Ryan Heinzen, Cora Heinzen, Kai Aza, Antonio Aza, Juliana Cummings, Grant Cummings, Sarah Healy, Anna Healy, Elizabeth Healy, Sarah (Benjamin) Smith, Carly Wetrich Lauren Wetrich, Kevin Moy, Kimberly Hayes, Angela (Mark Hensley) Coviello, Ross Wetrich, Grace Wetrich, Alexis Holbert, Gabrielle Holbert; great great-grandchildren, Patrick Quinn, Nathan Quinn, Hailey Quinn, Abigail Nichols, Liam Nichols, Everly Nichols, Evan Hensley, Riley Smith, Roxanna Smith Maverick Smith, Aurora Wetrich; and many nieces and nephews.
