Albert McClellan "Mac" Haskell, Jr. 92, passed away peacefully at SunQuest Healthcare Center on November 18, 2016, with his family at his side. Mac was born in Huron June 23, 1924, to Albert M. and Winifred P. Haskell. He attended Huron public schools, graduating from high school at St. John's Military Academy in Delafield, Wisconsin. He proudly served with the US Army's Americal Division in World War II. After the war, he attended Iowa State University. There he met and married Elizabeth Jane Thomas; they made their home in Huron, where Mac made a living selling insurance and providing farm management services. Mac's passion was raising cattle. He was never happier than out in a pasture checking his cows.
Following the example of his parents, Mac was a strong advocate for community service. He served on the Vestry of Grace Episcopal Church, the Huron chapter of Rotary (President twice), was a member of the Shriners (including the Royal Order of Jesters) and served on the boards of the Huron Public Library, Huron Regional Medical Center, National Bank of South Dakota and the South Dakota State Fair Commission, where he served as President. Mac also supported numerous agricultural organizations and events.
Following the death of his wife, Jane Haskell, Mac expanded his family and married Ila (Ramsell) Haskell.
He is survived by his wife, Ila; his son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Sharon Haskell of Hamden, CT; his daughter, Winifred Heller of Arlington Heights, IL; Ila's family, Sondra and Ron Kimball of Sioux Falls, Scott and Cathy Ramsell of Huron and Doug and Jane Ramsell of Huron; three grandchildren, Jane (John) Garb, Robert Heller (Alexandra Johnson) and Andrew Haskell; and a great grand-daughter, Kathryn Garb. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Haskell and his son-in-law, William Heller.
His funeral service was held at the Grace Episcopal Church at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, November 22nd. Interment was in the Riverside Cemetery with military rites by the Huron Veterans Council.
