Obituary

Allen "Les" Voss, age 68, of Wessington, passed away Thursday, August 26, 2021, at the Ivinson Memorial Hospital, Laramie, Wyoming.

His funeral service was held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, September 7th, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Wolsey. Burial was in the St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery.  His service was live-streamed.

Allen Leslie "Les" Voss was born to Edward and Kathleen Voss on September 12, 1952.  He was immediately immersed into the agricultural lifestyle and continued to be a part of agriculture until the very end of his life.  During his childhood, he enjoyed helping his parents operate their dairy farm in Western Montana and their ranch in Western Nebraska.

After high school, Les pursued bull riding for a few years and collected rodeo stories to tell his future grandkids.  While out on the rodeo circuit, Les met a beautiful young lady, Brenda Brauer.  Les and Brenda married shortly thereafter.  Brenda also had a daughter, Tiffany, whom Les would later adopt.  Les and Brenda re-located a few times, until they found a nice piece of land in Wessington, South Dakota.  Les always had a dream and a desire to own and operate his own Jersey Dairy, so they got to work and developed the land into a fully operating Dairy Farm.  Les and Brenda also had three handsome sons together: Brandon, Skipper, and Casey. With their family of six, they worked hard together on the dairy on the farm.  Les loved working.  He seldom took time off; but had a strong drive to make the dairy the best it could be.  He loved being with the milk cows, putting up the hay crop in the summer and filling his barn full of hay in the fall.  He was ultimately happiest when it was milking time, when he could ride his horse or when it was time to feed the cows.  In 1999, Les and Brenda divorced and Les continued to operate the Jersey dairy with the help of his sons.

Anyone who crossed paths with Les usually walked away with a smile on their face.  Les always had a joke to tell, an optimistic comment to make about how good life was (even when it wasn't so good) and was the life of the party. He thoroughly enjoyed making people laugh, attending wedding celebrations and dancing the night away while the country band played.  While he was fighting his health troubles, the doctor told him that he was going downhill, to which he responded, "If you say I'm going downhill, I just need to turn around and run the other way". He never let his troubles get too big to weigh him down.

Les was preceded in death by his father, Edward Voss.

The immediate surviving family that will greatly miss Les include his mother, Kathleen "Kathy" Voss; his sister, Linda (Mike) Fedderson; his daughter, Tiffany (Todd) Robinson and their daughter, Claire; his son, Brandon (Kayla) and their children; Skyler, Bria, Evelyn and Isabelle; his son, Skipper (Shawna) and their children, ShayLynn, Rhyden and Alex; and his son, Casey (Natosha) and their children; Denalli, Grayett, DallieJo, TallaKaye, Ryka and Evitt.
