Allen LaMont, age 76, of Huron, died Saturday, October 3, 2015, at the Aberdeen Health and Rehab Center in Aberdeen, due to complications of less than a 3 month battle with cancer. His funeral service was held at 10:30 AM Friday, October 9th at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Chad Zachrison and Rev. Andrew Crandall, officiating. Burial was in the Collins Cemetery at Willow Lake. Military honors were given by the Iroquois American Legion. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, HRMC Foundation, and the First Presbyterian Church.
Allen Walter LaMont was born September 7, 1939, to Ray and Florence (Uphoff) LaMont at Huron. He grew up in the Bancroft area and graduated from Bancroft High School in 1957. Allen then went on to attend Huron College and in 1966, received a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.While in college Allen joined the South Dakota National Guard during Vietnam.
Allen farmed in Clark County his entire life. In addition, he taught at the Bancroft School, became a banker at the Citizen State Bank in Willow Lake, was a State Bank Examiner, owned LB Realty, and later taught real estate education.
On December 27, 1984, Allen married Janis May Dusell of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, at Mitchell, South Dakota, by the Rev. Robert Larson. He and Jan enjoyed fishing together. They also enjoyed going to auctions and dealing with antiques and collectibles for 25 plus years. Allen hunted pheasants up until the time he hit three birds with one shot, then he quit. They moved to Huron in 2005.
He was a board member with the Osceola Farmers Elevator; a 40 year member of Sons of Norway; a 32 year member of the Iroquois American Legion; and a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lowell in infancy and Keith; one sister, Lois; and many aunts and uncles.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, Jan of Huron; one aunt, Alma Melsby of De Smet; one sister-in-law, Joyce Balliette of Columbus, Wisconsin; one brother-in-law, Jim Dusell of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin; one niece, Abby Balliette; one great-niece, Leela Greiling; and many cousins and friends.
