Her funeral service was held at 1:30 PM, Thursday, November 10th, at the First United Methodist Church. A time of fellowship followed after Alice's funeral service.

Alice Elaine Reilly was born on May 13, 1939, to Charles A. and Averil V. (Deeg) Reilly in Huron, South Dakota. The family lived south of Huron until moving to a farm northeast of Virgil in 1945. She attended a rural school for 8 years and Virgil High School until it closed. She graduated from Huron High School in 1957. She attended Northwest College of Commerce and worked for Northwestern Public Service for four years. Once her children were grown, Alice provided home health care to Huron families, until 2004.
On May 13, 1962, Alice married Harlan D. Mentzel at the First United Methodist Church in Huron. She did not recommend getting married on your birthday, especially if some years also ended up on Mother's Day- that meant only one present! They bought a farm northwest of Huron where she lived the rest of her life. Alice and Harlan worked together raising crops and cattle until they retired in 2014.
Alice was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church in Huron, where she served on many committees.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Lisa in 1967; her parents; her husband, Harlan in 2015; and her siblings, E. Jean Tapken, Helen Jager, Donald, Richard, Robert, and infant brother, Charles.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her three children, Lori Mentzel of Sioux Falls, Steven Mentzel of Huron and Brian Mentzel of Aurora, Colorado. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Adaline Reilly, Judy Reilly and Alice M. Mentzel, and many nieces and nephews.
