Alice Joy, age 86, of Huron, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2019, at Avantara of Redfield. Her funeral service was held at 10:00 AM, Friday, November 22nd, at the Kuhler Funeral Home. Burial was in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Alice Grace Stanfield was born January 5, 1933, to Dean and Grace (Butts) Stanfield at Artesian, South Dakota. She attended and graduated from Artesian High School.
Soon after high school, Alice was employed at Northwest Bell, where she was a telephone operator until retiring in 1989.
On November 30, 1956, Alice married James R. Joy. They made their home at Huron and together they raised their four children. Their home was always welcoming to everyone.
Alice loved collecting lighthouses, gardening, canning and spending time with children.
She will live forever in the hearts of her children, Patricia (Greg) Hochhalter of Glendive, Montana, Dennis (Brenda) Joy of Aberdeen, Peggy (Kevin) Reder of Duluth, Minnesota and Kristi (Jason) Orelup of Rapid City; ten grandchildren, Tonya, Traci, Tasha, Andrea, Tiffany, Kaci, Derrick, Caleb, Cassie and Candace; and twenty-five great-grandchildren. Alice is also survived by three sisters, Betty Seter of Boise, Idaho, Janet Bobeldyke of Huron and Donna Stanfield of Spearfish.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James of 47 years; her parents; and five siblings, Eldon, Ralph, Bruce and Robert Stanfield and Helen Estes.
The Joy family extends a special thank you to Ron and Laurie Roy, for going above and beyond helping Alice throughout the years.
